This is a short sci-fi drama thriller story which I have composed for practising in order to create a full length novel book. The story however is not related to the plot of the book that I am currently working on to be published for Amazon Kindle. The character(s) in this story is completley fictional and the views of this fictional character is not of the author.

Last day on Earth

John’s statement.

No one ever thought of the end actually happening. The news tried to censor these traumatic events. Yet they remained oblivious to the fact we could see strange blocks of ice constantly falling from the early morning sky. No one knew what caused this phenomenon.

The rumours which fed the social networking sites and various other media outlets were used to virally inform the end. Information was also mistold like the boy who cried wolf. The beautiful blue sky we always used to see would feel like a gift to our planet for just one last time. Sadly, clouds filled most of the sky for sunlight to shine through. The leaders of each countries could only tell the truth; mentioning that “we can only begin to predict the worst for our planet or even if this is right for us to say it belongs to us. We can only hope this planet can survive the harsh spontanious changes in temperatures which ravages the land and it’s waters. No one can predict exactly when the end will happen, although this is not too distant”.

This chaotic turmoil of Earth’s rejection to life is more apparent than ever. The vast range of species cease to exist; birds, bees and snakes. Again no one could explain why! It would take years of research to find the answers. This caused wide-spread panic because we needed the bees most importantly for honey and pollenation, unfortunatley flowers suffered without the help of a healthy photosynthesis and a strong pollen count. The natural terrains remained hostile. Green houses and tents were set up on those grounds for an attempt to restore the balance to a dying planet.

Even though these became failed attempts to restore the balance of natural life and to provide enough vegetation and warmth was only the beginning. We all thought nothing could get any worse than this. The Earth however reached peaks of -37°C in the early hours of the morning and rapidly increased to a staggering 1°C just by mid-day. Somehow our planet must have been further away from the sun. I would have expected this to happen maybe in the winter but it’s the summer. However I’m not an expert to suggest an explanation that can be proven for this.

Another major issue occured when the seas froze which means we can no longer get imported food on boats from other countries or travel to help others. Machines were not able to work very well outside so it was not safe to fly a plane neither drive anywhere.

The farmers lost their jobs as crops could no longer be grown which forced grocery shops to close. From what gradually happened in just 1 month, this must be the end now.

As I continue to type my account on these events, I struggle with surviving to remain warm. My hands shivering over the keys. My teeth chattering. My eyes glazing over. I can’t eat healthy food due to the scarce rationing of vegetables. These conditions are frustrating to put up with. The temperatures have reached -56°C outside so everyone that is remaining must wrap up warm, not even the heating in my house is protecting me. I am layered with a t-shirt, jumper, coat, wrapped up in three sleeping bags and surprisingly not enough, this is not warm.

The neighbours that are two houses away from me were wiped out last night from the cold, not even their eight year old son survived. Their dog only survived. I too will soon be next upon facing this devastating departure. Why is this happening to the planet!?

Earth once a ‘ball of life’ has almost become another destitute ‘ball of rock’ out in space. All that is luckily keeping many alive for now is the oxygen that we thankfully breathe, and sorry to say that even the oxygen levels are thin. I feel that I can go on no longer to survive typing this. My health is declining from hyperthermia. If you have managed to read this, you would have survived the savage events of Earth’s violent weather conditions and there may be hope for a new beginning. Remember, you are the last of us!
