Video from the Future (Short story)

I found an old VHS player in the attic yesterday. I was thinking about throwing it out as films don’t really come out on video tapes anymore. I decided to test if it worked anyway, just to see if it can be given to a charity shop instead, no point destroying and waisting it for the garbage if it works.

I descided to unpack a video tape; the film (Neverending Story) that had not even been unwrapped from the plastic, because I had accidently bought two at the time. Whilst fast forwarding to the intro, I begin to realise that these are not scenes from the film. I found information to when this was filmed, the osd data reads: fifty years from now.

The camera filming this approached the building with the digital time on it. It’s illuminous numbers reflecting on the eyes of the locals. On the other side of the building a digital clock represented in a traditional style also illuminous. The strike of every hour radiates from the speakers at the top of this tower. Solar panels covering it too.

The narrator or person speaking in the video, says, “Welcome to the ‘Queen Elizabeth DigiTower'”. This is a casual day for the people that pass through London. I’m guessing they had already been adapted to this change; since they had to live through these entire fifty years. Big Ben for them is just another history lesson. I am assuming King William V still resides on the throne, he may have commissioned this modernization.

I guess it’s better for the city and has probably helped people gain more inspiration for Architecture of their future.
The tape cut off after that short viewing, It was such a surprise that I tried watching it again but the film had gone and ‘Never ending story’ movie replaced it. I started looking through all the other unwrapped cassette tapes, none of them ever had shown content like this.
